When bringing home a new kitten, you’ll need to provide them with food, water, a litter box, and a safe space to adjust to their new surroundings:

Food and water
Provide shallow, non-slip bowls for food and water. Stainless steel and ceramic bowls with a lead-free glaze are best, as plastic bowls can cause chin acne. Clean the bowls daily.

Litter box
Set up a litter box with low sides and kitten-safe litter. Show your kitten where the litter box is.

Safe space
Create a cozy, secluded area with a soft bed or blanket, food and water bowls, and a litter box.

Toys
Provide interactive toys like small balls, plush toys, or scratching toys to keep your kitten entertained.

Veterinary care
Schedule an initial visit to the vet to discuss your kitten’s nutritional needs, vaccinations, deworming, and wellness visits.

Carrier
Use a pet carrier to transport your kitten safely.

Other supplies
You’ll also need a cat collar and identification tag, nail clippers, and a soft grooming brush.

You can also help your kitten adjust to their new home by:
Providing multiple options for each resource
Hiding electrical cords and valuables
Removing toxic house plants
Securing furniture

Walking with your pet is a great way to spend time outdoors.
